SUPPORT

Rheumatologists agree that support groups are important in proper disease management.  By talking to people afflicted by a disease very similar to our own, we don't feel as alone with our illness.  We also see new and different ways of dealing with our disease and the depression which often follows.  It has been found that younger arthritis sufferers benefit greatly from support groups.  By seeing other young people afflicted with their disease, they realize that the stereotype of arthritis as an 'old person's disease' is wrong.

AWISH support group leaders offer coping tips and education, and from a perspective of true understanding, provide reassurance to fellow arthritis sufferers.

Caring and Sharing Support Group

Arthritis sufferers gather to discuss various problems related to their arthritic illness and the effects of the illness on their lives and the lives of their loved ones.  Bring a smile and sense of humour and we will do the rest.  This support group is free of charge for AWISH members and their partners.   Meetings are regularly  held at 750 Dawson Avenue in Dorval.  The group is active from the fall to spring seasons.  Consult our Activities for specific times and dates.

Scleroderma Support Group

For our members who suffer with Scleroderma, AWISH has a support group which meets regularly.  Please contact our office for further details.

PALS Support

AWISH is composed of volunteers with arthritis who have a personal interest in helping fellow sufferers improve their quality of life.  We understand the pain and we share the benefit of our experience one on one over the phone.  Please contact our office if you need to speak with someone who understands.
